A Spooktacular Halloween...

We had a wonderful Halloween weekend. We kicked it off by doing the 5K Halloween Hustle in Palatine. We went as "Family Game Night"---Connect Four, Twister and A Barrel of Monkeys. It was a fun run (actually jog/walk) and we were able to see our friends and their little Tiger, Max. Today, for Halloween, we trick-or-treated a little around our neighborhood. As, you can see in the photos, Brayden was excited about the candy---although---he had to share it all with mom and dad this year--except for his first sucker :) Then we headed to Schaumburg Park District to their Halloween Boo-nanza. Brayden had a great time trick-or-treating in the "little town". He walked quite a bit, and enjoyed "chatting" with the adults who were handing out candy. Then we headed inside...and he went to the play area...where he QUICKLY took off and headed right for the tunnel play structure. We had to seriously pull him out...kicking and crying...to get him to leave. He loved crawling in the tunnels, climbing on all the structures and going down the slides. Happy Halloween to all!!!!

Pumpkin, Pumpkin...

This past weekend, Grandma and Great-grandpa visited me and we had such a wonderful time. They got here on Friday night...just in time to read me a book. And then on Saturday...we did a little shopping. As you can see in my pumpkin farm photos...I am sporting some new apparel that they got me! Then, Saturday afternoon we headed to the pumpkin farm. I got to see a bunch of awesome animals, play with pumpkins and go on a hayride...what a great time!!!! Then, today, we carved our pumpkin...I was not too fond of the pumpkin guts...but it turned out great! I am so glad that they came to visit...and I look forward to seeing all my family again at Thanksgiving. But next weekend...will be FUN too...I cannot wait to dress up and go trick-or-treating! Happy Halloween!!!

ONE!!!

Here are a few photos from the week long birthday celebrations we had for Brayden. The first was in Southern Illinois. We headed down there...and as you can tell Brayden was very musical on the piano! In Belleville, we had a birthday party with his cousin, Clara, at the park. It was a great time...and we enjoyed visiting with everyone...and of course Brayden loved being with all the kids. Then during the week...on his actually birthday...we made birthday quesadillas, then headed to a story-time at our library and finally went to Oberweis for ice cream...he LOVED ice cream!!! But then, who doesn't?? Then the party continued into the next weekend...and we had a cowboy party at our house. He once again was in HEAVEN eating the cake...although the second time around he ate a little less and FLUNG a LOT more!!! The party was wonderful...and of course Brayden was a spoiled little guy! We are so blessed that we could celebrate our little man's day with our family and friends.

On the eve of the Birthday...

Last year at this time, I was nervous and anxious...really a whole bag of mixed emotions as I was about to become a mom. I was going to be in charge of a little person...and making sure that all of his needs were met. I wondered what life would be like with a baby and now I have a hard time remembering what life was like before Brayden...before I was a mom.
One year later, as I write this, my eyes are filled with tears. Not tears of sadness of course...but tears of bittersweet joy. The last year of my life has been AMAZING! We have watched Brayden grow so much....and I am sad that my baby is no longer truly a little baby....but a growing toddler which is exciting to witness.
In the beginning, when we brought Brayden home, life of course was so hard. The lack of sleep and experience, made parenting the hardest job that we had ever done. However, the most rewarding job too. And just when we thought, when will this get easier...it did (for now at least---I know that hard and easies come in spurts!!!). Brayden starting sleeping through the night, cooing and smiling. And that first time I saw his little smile...it warmed my heart. As the days passed, he continued doing even more---making each day more exciting than the last. Everyone told me, enjoy every second, it goes by so fast....and when he was wailing in his crib and getting up every 2 hours---I thought to myself---this is not going by fast enough. But...now as I look back at those days, they are a haze---and I cannot believe that a whole year has gone by.
Now every morning, we wake up to a little boy...that claps when we go to get him out of his crib--seriously---how could that not make you feel like the most special person in the world? And when I drop him off in the morning, he waves good bye and gives one more smile. Brayden seriously does brighten every day with his beaming smile and radiant blue eyes. We have listened to his cries turn into laughs and his noises turn into some-what words of mama and dada. We have watched him learn to roll over, crawl and now cruise the furniture...and all have been awesome. We have watched his personality develop over time---and he still remains the happiest little boy--who of course is strong willed and determined at times...but pretty easy going too. We have watched him go from barely drinking 2oz of formula to chugging milk while eating a 3 course meal. Brayden is more and more fun each day---and that is the joy of watching him age. But of course, I will never forget that moment, when I first got to hold him in my arms and look at his precious face---and I know that I will always get a little teary eye with each passing year. So Happy Birthday Baby!!! We LOVE you more and more each day!!!!

Busy boy...

Where is Brayden?? I found Brayden here...he hid himself in the corner and read to himself...he must be taking tips from my students...find a quiet place to read! Good boy!!!
And then we have the Brayden who is into EVERYTHING!!!!! Here he is getting ready to rip all the DVDs off the shelf...
And helping himself to beverages in the fridge. I am saying he is taking after daddy in this photo... And yes, EVERY time we open the fridge, he goes for another drink...
Last Wednesday, Jason, Brayden's godfather, was in town for a quick visit...it was great to see him...
On Saturday we went to a little festival in Arlington Heights. Brayden loved the animals...of course...our little animal lover and outdoors man... And he went on his first hayride...
Then on Sunday, I had the family attend yet another festival. We went to Long Grove Apple Festival...it was a wonderful day!!!
Here Brayden is practicing for his first birthday...can you tell how excited he is?!?! I cannot believe that he will be ONE next Thursday!!!
Our rockin' drummer!!!
More Reading...
Getting ready for bed... No longer does Brayden drink from a bottle or let us hold him for his last drink of the night... He does it on his own terms and all on his own...
Not sure if this is a "sign" he learned in play group?!?!?!
